Here at Blackberry Centre, our users are real users that use their Blackberries everyday.
We don’t just review for the sake of it, we actually put the devices through their stride.
The Huawei E585 ( also known as the MiFi 2 ) is the second generation of USB wireless 3G modem/router. The E585 compared to its predecessor, the E5830, is all the good bits from the E5830 plus everything else we wanted.
The E585 looks a lot sharper than the E5830 with its black and silver finish. Initial views are that you will notice that it only has one button and also an informative OLED screen display.
The single button is a god send as you only need to push this button to activate the modem and all its wireless and connection facilities. A far cry from the three button affair on the E5830.
Then the second most important improvement, is the screen which shows battery level, signal strength, connection status and wifi status. You will not believe how much this was missed on the E5830.
The third improvement is the fact that you can now charge the E585 whilst you are using it, and not only that, charging time has been greatly reduced from the E5830. It is also said that the battery life is also better on this as well.
The device is relatively straight forward to setup and now allows control via a browser rather than its own proprietary software. Great for Linux users.
Pro’s
Con’s
Huawei took all our criticisms of the E5830 and made the E585 almost near perfect. The E585 is stylish, useable and more user friendly for people who do not have Windows or Apple Macintosh. Users of Linux, Ubuntu and any other operating system with a browser can now manage the modem with relative ease.
All in all, a great product.
